Hi ya. We moved into the house late autumn of '82 (owing to some renovations they were supposed to do-those consisted of adding two US voltage sockets) and left good old Fairford in summer of '85. I was in 8th grade when we moved there, so you were definitely a bit ahead.
We moved to Fairford from England AFB in Louisiana and I wish I could remember the name of the family who gave us the lay of the land before moving over. They were one of the first families and helped to set up the base. You might have known them. I remember that they told us to get housing at Brize and not at Fairford.
My dad was the Clinic Commander and had to get a waiver to live at Brize. The units didn't want to send me to London Central either and I think that was the reason it was approved.
Sooooo, which room was yours? I had the one with the sink in it. I always thought that was just too weird, but it came in handy with only one full bath in the house.
You got to catch the bus at 7am???? LUCKY! We were out there for the CHS run at quarter to six every morning, but then it did seem we picked up every kid between Carterton and Croughton on the way in. Nothing like freezing one's behind off by the old red phone box and fighting over who would get to stand inside on a rainy windy morning.
There were a lot of new families moving in around the same time we did as well as several British families. Most of them had younger kids and I cleaned up with babysitting. I don't think there were any other teenagers who moved in until summer of '83 in fact. Hail and Farewell nights paid for a lot of trips to Oxford.
Tell me, did you have that absolutely "stunning" brown patterned carpeting in the kitchen? Now that stuff was horrid! I remember thinking how strange it was to have a kitchen that had carpet in it. Dare I think that could have been another so called "renovation?" At least we had the house freshly painted and prepped before moving in. The British families often had to do their own house painting after moving in.
You always know that someone has lived in a house before you, but actually getting in touch with someone who did is so wild!

Hi Ted. I saw your comment on the Fairford page about living at 21 Stirling Close. I am writing because that is where I lived too. When did you move out? I was a youngster when we first moved in. Just thought it was so wild to see someone who had lived there too.

Ted,
Wow, can't believe you and your son were at Yokota and we didn't hook up. I trust you enjoyed staying at the Kanto Lodge, flying with our Aero Club, visiting Kamakura and enjoying some Japanese cuisine. I'm currently the Mission Support Group Dep CC, so I hope the support to you was outstanding :-) Congrats on retirement -- I'm hanging in there for a few more years for retirement. We should be heading back to the US this summer...maybe to C. Springs (Space/Northcom)? In any case, keep in touch, and I'll be sure to stop by the historian office if I'm ever back at Tyndall. Take it easy! Ron

Maybe we will see each other over there. I too like looking at classmates families. To think about how we were 25 years ago, and now having kids is interesting. Mine are 4 and 2, and they are the greatest blessing and achievement of my life. To watch them learn and try things for the first time is so much fun. This deployment is going to be a hard one for me. Last time the oldest was 16 months and that was tough. Hopefully we can stay in touch with the webcam.

Hey Ted, Long time since I thought about HS. I am a Lieutenant Commander in the Navy. Of course, I took the long route. I enlisted after two different attempts at college (GA Tech and FL Tech). Nearly at the 12 yr point I recieved a commission as a limited duty officer (line officer but only allowed to work in nuclear power field). I am coming up on 23 years in March. Still not sure when I'll retire but today it is still fun. Cool pics of you and your boy. Where was the asian pics taken?

I thought you were is COS. I can't remember who told me, but I know it was while I was there. I was at AFSPC from 99-01 and then at USNORTHCOM from 04-06. So you adopted a son...good for you. Glad it worked out for you. Next time we are in Florida I will let you know and maybe we can have a beer. i won't make it to the reunion since i will be playing in the sand box for a few months.

Hey Ted!
Of course I remember you, I remember going to you for answers. I assume by V you mean valedictorian? No, I was not at the top, don't remember where I fell in that race. You are in Panama City? We are in Ft Lauderdale - let me know if you are in the neighborhood.

Hey Ted - Looks like you are managing well on this site and finding hadite friends. Looks like you have also found Facebook. Great pictures. Can't believe how big Mike is. How are your parents and Kip? Are they also in FL? Joe Manny and his wife live in Miami (45 mins away) Their son Santiago is the cutie I have tons of pictures of on FB. Daniela is so critical of pics of her, and has to approve anything I put on of her. Such a girl! My parents live here in Boca Raton. They have had quite a year. My mom had her kidney removed the week before Christmas as they found cancer. She has recouped well, but it took almost 6 months before she was back to doing some of the physical things she used to do. My dad had prostrate cancer, and has had some reoccurances. My dad turns 80 while Joe Manny turns 40 in March. Hernan and his family are in the DC area. His oldest just started college. Looks like we'll have an awesome turnout for the reunion, are you planning on going? It's been super getting in touch with everyone. Just wish I had more time to really sit down and spend more time on here. I find FB a bit easier as I have friends from all over and I can post something and hit everyone at one time...especially pictures. I've really slacked off on this site. Julie P is the bomb with all this. She totally rocks and has put a lot of effort in finding people. Better scoot, keep in touch and thanks for the kind words.

About you: where you currently live, what has life been like since your days at UHHS/CHS?, what kind of job do you have?
Right after graduating, me and Norm Robert (83) traveled Europe by train for a month and had a blast. Came back to the states and attended Texas A&M--man that was an eye-opener! I was in the Corps and actually mentored some UHHS kids back then. Commissioned by the AF in 86; came on active duty about 9 months later. Stationed at Pensacola, Hanscom (MA), Wright-Patt (OH), Sembach and Ramstein, Germany, Air Force Academy, Tyndall (FL), back to Colorado Springs, and then back to Tyndall. I am the Wing Historian for Tyndall AFB, and I love it.

I adopted my son, Mike, as a single parent, back in 97. He was 8 and had had a pretty hard life. I love being a parent, and we do lots together. He ran into some hard times dealing with His past and the death of his birthmother in 03. After a bout with rehab and therapy, you can see how terrific he is now.

When I retired from the AF, he and I went hopping (Space A) around the world. You can read about it at tedretires.blogspot.com

If anybody wants a great vacation, I've got 3600sqft and plenty of bedrooms. I live on a golf course about 200 yards from the water, and I have a jetski. Come on down!

I retired from the Air Force last year. I am now the Historian for Tyndall AFB in Panama City, Florida. I've got a 20 year old son who lives with me now, but who harbors dreams of moving to Thailand for awhile (yeah right).
Did you have any brothers or sisters who attended CHS/UHHS(who) ?
My brother, Kip, attended during his freshman year (class of 86).
