We moved to Fairford from England AFB in Louisiana and I wish I could remember the name of the family who gave us the lay of the land before moving over. They were one of the first families and helped to set up the base. You might have known them. I remember that they told us to get housing at Brize and not at Fairford.
My dad was the Clinic Commander and had to get a waiver to live at Brize. The units didn't want to send me to London Central either and I think that was the reason it was approved.
Sooooo, which room was yours? I had the one with the sink in it. I always thought that was just too weird, but it came in handy with only one full bath in the house.
You got to catch the bus at 7am???? LUCKY! We were out there for the CHS run at quarter to six every morning, but then it did seem we picked up every kid between Carterton and Croughton on the way in. Nothing like freezing one's behind off by the old red phone box and fighting over who would get to stand inside on a rainy windy morning.
There were a lot of new families moving in around the same time we did as well as several British families. Most of them had younger kids and I cleaned up with babysitting. I don't think there were any other teenagers who moved in until summer of '83 in fact. Hail and Farewell nights paid for a lot of trips to Oxford.
Tell me, did you have that absolutely "stunning" brown patterned carpeting in the kitchen? Now that stuff was horrid! I remember thinking how strange it was to have a kitchen that had carpet in it. Dare I think that could have been another so called "renovation?" At least we had the house freshly painted and prepped before moving in. The British families often had to do their own house painting after moving in.
You always know that someone has lived in a house before you, but actually getting in touch with someone who did is so wild!

Wow, can't believe you and your son were at Yokota and we didn't hook up. I trust you enjoyed staying at the Kanto Lodge, flying with our Aero Club, visiting Kamakura and enjoying some Japanese cuisine. I'm currently the Mission Support Group Dep CC, so I hope the support to you was outstanding :-) Congrats on retirement -- I'm hanging in there for a few more years for retirement. We should be heading back to the US this summer...maybe to C. Springs (Space/Northcom)? In any case, keep in touch, and I'll be sure to stop by the historian office if I'm ever back at Tyndall. Take it easy! Ron
Of course I remember you, I remember going to you for answers. I assume by V you mean valedictorian? No, I was not at the top, don't remember where I fell in that race. You are in Panama City? We are in Ft Lauderdale - let me know if you are in the neighborhood.
